After Serving His Community for 14 Years, Joyce Attends His Last Meeting as Derby School Board Member
Matthew Joyce, SPEEA Council Chair/IFPTE Area Vice President, has served his Derby County community for 14 years as a member of the Derby School Board of Education. This week marked his last meeting as a Board member after announcing earlier this year that he was not going to run for another term.
Brother Joyce, who gives countless hours of his time serving the members of SPEEA and IFPTE as a union officer, commented on the end of his tenure on the school board. “I am proud to have served my community for so many years as a member of the Derby BOE. I originally ran for the Board when my daughters were students in the Derby School District and in 2009 when then-Governor Brownback slashed school funding for our public schools in Kansas. I felt the need to do my part to mitigate the damage done at that time to our public schools, and the disservice it was doing to our children. After fourteen years, what I am most proud of was investing in and providing each student the electronics necessary to perform well in school.”
