As the 118 Congress winds down IFPTE and coalition partners demand Senate action on legislation to repeal the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP)

Despite overwhelming bipartisan support, a 327-75 vote of approval in the House, and a strong endorsement for the legislation by President Biden, the Social Security Fairness Act (HR 82, S. 597) has yet to be scheduled for consideration in the United States Senate.  The legislation, which will put an end to the unfair GPO and WEP loopholes that deny 2.7 million public sector workers and their spouses their earned Social Security benefits, also enjoys strong bipartisan support in the Senate.  As the 118th Congress finishes its business, IFPTE is one of many Unions that continues to call on the Senate to schedule a vote on the legislation, saying, “Now is the time to correct this inequity.”
