Canada’s Richest 100 CEOs Make 210 Times More than the Average Worker
The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) released its annual report looking at the compensation of Canada’s richest 100 CEOs and found that in 2023, the highest-paid CEOs took home $13.2 million, on average—the third largest haul since the CCPA started tracking CEO pay.
The report, Company Men, CEO Pay in Canada, 2023, shows that, on average, these 100 CEOs, of which only three are women, were paid more than 210 times more than the average worker’s wage in 2023. In 1998, it was 104 times more.
“By the first working day of the year, January 2 at 10:54 a.m., these 100 CEOs already made, on average, $62,661. It took the average Canadian worker all year to earn that amount”, says Senior Economist, David MacDonald, “It’s hard to conceive of income gaps that large”.
