Canada's Unions Encouraged by EI Reforms

The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) welcomes the federal government’s announcement that it will extend the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and make changes to Employment Insurance (EI).

The CERB has helped support millions of Canadians since March. We were all worried that once it was over, too many workers wouldn’t be eligible under the current Employment Insurance (EI) system. The benefit was set to terminate but will now be extended for another month. In the meantime, the temporary changes to EI will support those who still need help once the CERB expires and who wouldn’t otherwise be eligible under previous rules.
