ESC Holds Its Annual Women’s Committee Conference

(l-r) IFPTE Western Area vice presidents Frances Hsieh and Dr. Joan Mah

Last weekend, the Engineers and Scientists (ESC/IFPTE Local 20) held its annual Women’s Committee meeting at their union hall in Oakland.

ESC’s Women’s Committee works to promote women’s participation, perspectives, and concerns in workplaces, communities, and the Union, both locally and within the IFPTE International.  The meeting was chaired by Local 20 Vice President/IFPTE Western Area Vice President, Dr. Joan Mah, and included presentations from International Secretary-Treasurer, Gay Henson, and IFPTE Local 21 Board Member/Western Area Vice President, Francis Hsieh.

Dr. Mah commented, “The panel discussion that my Union Sisters, Gay Henson, Frances Hsieh, and Deb Deveno, the Women's Committee Founding Member and President of the Optometry Unit Board, participated in was intended to impart to Local 20’s membership that our labor union Sisters can and should strive to achieve to be leaders in our movement and be champions for working families.   It was an honor to have my colleagues from the IFPTE Executive Council address our ESC members.”
