IFPTE Applauds and Welcomes MLBPA to the House of Labor
AFL-CIO Announces MLBPA Affiliation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC – IFPTE’s executive officers, Matthew Biggs and Gay Henson, issued the following joint statement in response to today’s announcement that the MLBPA has affiliated with the AFL-CIO:
“IFPTE welcomes with open arms and applauds the affiliation of the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) with the AFL-CIO. As an International that is proud to serve on the Executive Council of the AFLCIO, we were proud to vote in favor of bringing these siblings into the House of Labor.
We salute President Liz Shuler and Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond for their aggressive recruitment of the MLBPA into the House of Labor. Their leadership is a testament to their commitment to grow, diversify and strengthen the Labor Movement.
As baseball fans, we have always enjoyed cheering for our favorite team (Go Nats!) in the past. As labor leaders, we now look forward to cheering for our fellow union members, regardless of the uniform they wear.
Every game will be a win-win.”
