IFPTE Applauds Office of Special Counsel’s Recommendation on Military Reservist Pay
In an op-ed published in Military Times, Special Counsel Hampton Dellinger urges fair compensation for federal government employees who also serve part-time in the military. To achieve this goal, Congress enacted a “differential pay" statute to support federal workers performing National Guard or Reserve duty to protect employee reservists from having to incur a pay cut when they serve in uniform because the law requires the government to pay the difference if their military pay is less than their civilian pay.
IFPTE executive officers Matt Biggs and Gay Henson issued a joint statement applauding Special Counsel Dellinger’s editorial, stating that, “it is heartening to see that the OSC is weighing in on this issue so that our military reservists who also work for the federal government do not get penalized for serving their nation in uniform and as civilian workers.”
