IFPTE Applauds the New Jersey State AFL-CIO for Delivering Pro-Worker Legislation
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO racked up key legislative victories for the State’s public sector workers, including thousands represented by IFPTE, at the tail end of the 2021 legislative session that were signed into law by Governor Murphy this week. The key items pushed by the State Fed and IFPTE included passage of the Responsible Collective Negotiations Act, which ends the ability of localities to unilaterally impose contracts.
Other legislation to tighten penalties for those assaulting transit workers, and promoting apprenticeship programs for public works projects, also became law. State Fed president, Charlie Wowkanech, thanked “Governor Murphy and all the legislators that voted in support of a pro-worker agenda throughout the ‘lame duck’ session of the legislature…”. Local 195 President/IFPTE Atlantic Council President, Tim Rudolph, who also serves as a New Jersey AFL-CIO Vice President, commented as well, saying that, “IFPTE thanks the New Jersey AFL-CIO, all of the affiliates that fought for these historic legislative victories, and IFPTE’s Locals throughout our State for achieving these long awaited victories, particularly in relation to the non-imposition bill. We also applaud Governor Murphy and those in the legislature that championed and supported this legislation.”
