IFPTE Attends Canadian Labour Congress Convention
IFPTE leaders and members from across Canada travelled to Montreal this week to attend the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) convention.
The convention, which was attended by upwards of 4,000 union members from 51 CLC affiliated unions, was a week long meeting in which delegates addressed such key issues as protecting publicly funded healthcare against privatization, eliminating the use of scab labor, and meeting carbon free climate goals through the expansion of clean energy, and union represented jobs.
Among the highlights of the convention was a screening of the 2022 Oliver Stone documentary, Nuclear Now, which was organized and hosted by the Society of United Professionals/IFPTE Local 160. IFPTE’s delegation was led by IFPTE Local 160 President/Canadian Area Vice President/CLC Board Member, Michelle Johnston, and was attended by 28 IFPTE members from IFPTE Locals 160, 161, 162 and 222, and the International.
