IFPTE Endorses Glenn Ivey for Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ivey is a proven champion for Prince George’s County and for working people
WASHINGTON, DC – The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), representing thousands of workers living and working in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District, endorses Glenn Ivey for United States Congress.
IFPTE President Matthew Biggs:
"As a union with members who live and work in the 4th District of Maryland, it’s critical for us to know that the district is represented by a Member of Congress who has actually delivered concrete results. We endorse Glenn Ivey for Congress because we know he’ll be there to push for passage of the PRO Act, the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act, and to support fair pay, benefits, collective bargaining rights, and civil service protections of tens of thousands of federal workers in the district, including IFPTE members.
Make no mistake, the occupant of the seat in the House representing 4th Congressional District of Maryland has a special responsibility to fight for our nation’s civil servants, as this congressional district is the home to more federal workers than just about any other in the nation. It is critically important that the candidate who fills this seat live up to the responsibility of leading on federal worker issues in the House. Unfortunately, when IFPTE brought data and evidence regarding a long-standing racial bias in the performance rating system at NASA – including at NASA Goddard in Prince George’s County – to the office of the former Congresswoman who was then representing the 4th District and Ranking Member on the House Space Subcommittee, our concerns unfortunately went unaddressed. In Glenn Ivey, we have a proven leader who puts the interests of his constituents at the top of the priority list. He doesn't just state his commitment to working families, unions, and union members. He delivers. We believe Glenn Ivey, if elected, is the best candidate in this race to address the issues impacting federal workers, particularly those that work and live in the 4th District.”
IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson:
“Throughout his career in public service, Glenn Ivey has proven himself as a champion for the people in Prince George’s County and across the state of Maryland. From his career at the U.S. Department of Justice and his leadership at the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney office to teaching at Harvard Law School and the University of Maryland School of Law to serving on the Sentencing Project’s board of directors, Glenn has established a reputation of listening to working people and prioritizing their concerns.
We know he is the best candidate in this race for workers’ issues, for repairing our broken labor laws, for advocating for the federal government to be a model employer for federal employees in the 4th District and across the U.S. IFPTE is proud to support him.”
Across the United States and Canada, IFPTE represents 90,000 highly skilled workers in the federal, public, and private sectors. IFPTE is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO and the CLC. More information can be found at www.IFPTE.org.
