IFPTE Endorses Katie Curran O'Malley for Maryland Attorney General
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement by IFPTE International President Matt Biggs and
IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson
On behalf of our more than 90,000 members throughout North America, we enthusiastically endorse the candidacy of Katie Curran O'Malley for Maryland Attorney General. Throughout her three decades of service to the people of Maryland, including two 10-year terms as an Associate Judge for the First District Court of Maryland, O'Malley has proven herself as an advocate for working families and those who often get lost within the criminal justice system.
O'Malley will bring the thoughtful and common sense approach that she developed on the bench to the Attorney General's office. Given her breadth of experience, she will be ready from Day 1 to make Maryland a better place to live, work and receive an education. In addition, she knows how to connect with Marylanders, she understands their needs, and she knows how to win elections.
We represent a broad swath of workers throughout Maryland, from engineers at NASA to judges at the Social Security Administration to thought leaders at the nation's top progressive advocacy organizations. In addition to mobilizing our members in the state, we will also work with other unions to build O'Malley's base of labor support. The office of Attorney General is critically important to working families in Maryland, including our members, and the person who fills that office often serves as a last line of defense against bad ideas, bad policies, and bad laws. We need a proven fighter like Katie Curran O'Malley in the Attorney General's office.
We salute Brian Frosh for his lifetime of service to the people of Maryland, including two terms as the state's Attorney General. Frosh's tenure as Attorney General was marked by a badly needed modernization of the office, along with a more aggressively progressive approach to the issues that matter most to working families in Maryland. We believe that Katie Curran O'Malley is best suited to build on that record and ensure that Maryland's Attorney General continues to be one of the most pro-worker and pro-family elected officials in the nation.
