IFPTE Local 1937, TVA Pay Tribute to Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson
This week in Chattanooga was a time to celebrate Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson’s 17 years of service as President of the Engineering Association (EA/IFPTE Local 1937), and over 37 years of service to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
On Wednesday night, TVA management took the opportunity to toast and dine with Gay, while the EA held a reception in her honor on Thursday night. Both events were attended by EA union members, including EA members and retirees, long-time TVA colleagues, and family. IFPTE president, Matt Biggs, who also attended, commented that, “the well-deserved respect shown for Gay by management and her EA Sisters and Brothers alike is a testament to the countless, and long lasting contributions she has made to her union, TVA and the Tennessee Valley community. IFPTE is truly lucky to have her bring her wealth of experience to share with us for many years to come at the national level.”
Newly elected EA/IFPTE Local 1937 President Mike Covote also commented, calling Gay, “irreplaceable and a true labor icon here in the Tennessee Valley. We are proud to honor her and her immeasurable contributions to the members of the EA over her decades of service.” Secretary-Treasurer Henson added the final comments:
“Forevermore, I am grateful for the honor to have served the Engineering Association (EA) members at TVA through the years. Together, we have accomplished so much, and we've built beautiful lifetime friendships. For the Engineering Association, the future is bright as I leave the president's gavel in the very capable leadership of Mike Cavote. While stepping aside at the EA is bittersweet, I am ecstatic about the opportunity to serve the IFPTE members at large and the greater labor movement. For me, it is a dream come true to work alongside Matt and serve labor at IFPTE.”
