IFPTE Stand in Solidarity with UAW Members on Strike for a Fair Contract
The executive officers of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), a labor union representing upwards of 90,000 working professionals in diverse occupations across the federal government, state and local governments, the private sector, and the nonprofit sector, issued the following statement in solidarity with the members of the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) who are on strike against General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis.
IFPTE President Matthew Biggs and IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson:
“The North American automotive industry has enjoyed tremendous profits in recent years. These profits have enriched the bosses and shareholders. It’s time for those who actually do the work to share in that reward.
We stand in solidarity with our sisters, brothers, and siblings in the United Auto Workers who took the courageous step of striking the Big Three automakers this week. They are standing up not just for themselves and their families, but for all workers who deserve a decent wage and dignity on the job.
We look forward to picking up a picket sign and walking the line with UAW members in support of their fight for a fair contract. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “An injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” We join the fight and walk the walk with his call to action as our inspiration.”
