Secretary-Treasurer Henson Participates in White House CHIPS Discussion
Labor leaders, including IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer, Gay Henson, and industry representatives met at the White House last week with Department of Labor and Department of Commerce officials to discuss the implementation of the CHIPS and Science Act, legislation passed and signed into law by President Biden in August 2022 to provide $54B for domestic semiconductor manufacturing and over $220 billion to set national priorities for federal R&D, emerging technologies, and advanced manufacturing.
Henson commented on the meeting: “The White House meeting focused on the expenditure of monies approved by the CHIPS and Science Act to ensure that we build a sustainable domestic manufacturing base here in America for semiconductors, and provided IFPTE an opportunity to impart on those implementing this mission to invest in domestic workforce development as a part of this effort.”
