Senators Van Hollen, Collins Lead Bipartisan Effort to Mitigate Reckless Social Security Payroll Tax Deferral Policy

Following IFPTE’s letter last week urging Congress to block implementation of Trump Administration’s fiscally irresponsible payroll tax deferral policy, Senators Van Hollen and Collins led an effort this week in the Senate urging OPM and OMB to allow federal workers to opt out of the deferral. IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer/Legislative Director, Matt Biggs commented that, “while IFPTE continues to prioritize an outright repeal of this irresponsible policy through a defund in the upcoming Continuing Resolution, IFPTE does support a worker opt-out as a fall back if an outright repeal of this policy is not achieved in the funding bill.”
