Society Celebrates Black History Month
The Society of United Professionals/IFPTE Local 160’s Coalition of Racialized Professionals (CoRP) hosted a presentation celebrating Black History Month. IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer, Gay Henson, brought greetings to the event which was attended by nearly 100 members and guests. Attendees learned about early labour history and the important role that Black workers played pushing for change within the workplace and in unions. Notable leaders and important Canadian milestones were also highlighted, shedding light on the vast array of contributions by Black Canadians.
Later, a special family story was shared about the underground railroad to Nova Scotia, bringing to life the daily struggles and community network that existed in Halifax, Canada. The presentation then shifted to Black health and wellness where ongoing issues were discussed and tips were shared on how to maintain good health and well-being.
