Society Celebrates Lunar New Year

Earlier this week, the Society of United Professionals/IFPTE Local 160’s Coalition of Racialized Professionals (CORP) celebrated Lunar New Year by organizing a cultural presentation for members. Over 130 members attended the virtual event and IFPTE President Matt Biggs was invited to bring greetings to kick-off the program. President Biggs congratulated CORP on their hard work and success, noting how important this groundwork is for strengthening the union movement. 

Attendees learned about the diversity of people who celebrate Lunar New Year in many parts of the world including China, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. Different traditions were spotlighted and participants even got to practice saying “Happy New Year” in several languages.
