SPEEA Area VP Matthew Joyce Attends Labor Event with Kansas Gov. Kelly and Former Gov. Sebelius
Matthew Joyce, IFPTE Executive Council SPEEA Area Vice President, was in Washington, DC this week to represent IFPTE at an event sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) to recognize the work of and raise funds for the Bluestem Kansas and the Kansas Values Institute.
The reception featured talks by current Governor Laura Kelly, and former Governor, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and focused on the importance of electing pro-labor candidates in the State of the Kansas.
Joyce, who lives and works in Kansas, commented that,
“The event was a great opportunity for me to remind Governor Kelly and others of the unique issues facing SPEEA and IFPTE members employed in the aerospace industry in Kansas, but it also allowed me to share my experiences as lifetime resident of Derby, Kansas where I continue to serve on the school board, and as a recent candidate for the Kansas legislature. It was a productive event with these lawmakers and with the larger labor community.”
