TAKE ACTION: Republican-led Budget Blueprint Takes Aim at Medicaid, SNAP, Federal Employee Benefits – IFPTE Urges Lawmakers to Vote NO
Following the Senate’s recent approval of a budget resolution that opens the door to massive cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and federal employee pensions and benefits, this week, the House considered and unfortunately approved the budget legislation. While the resolution is not binding and has no force of law, it does provide instructions to oversight committees in Congress to recommend $2 trillion in draconian and destructive cuts that will negatively impact working families. In urging a NO vote, IFPTE pointed out that the cuts are intended to ultimately help offset extending the Trump tax cuts for billionaires and corporations, while warning lawmakers that, “This budget resolution is also a tremendous, missed opportunity to propose a fair taxation policy that can fund necessary government services and help lower the record-high federal deficit.”
