TEAM AGM Highlights Opportunities and Challenges Ahead for the Local
Members of TEAM-IFPTE Local 161 gathered in Winnipeg on November 12 and 13 for their annual general meetings. The lunch hour meetings featured a packed agenda that included financial updates, a report from the President, an overview of workplace issues and member advocacy efforts, and a presentation on key objectives for the upcoming collective bargaining round by TEAM’s legal counsel, Kris Saxberg.
In his report, President Dave Eyjolfson highlighted significant events from the past year, including meetings with Manitoba’s Minister of Labour and the Minister of Consumer Protection and Government Services, as part of the union’s ongoing campaign to address the loss of skilled, well-paid telecommunications jobs from TEAM and Manitoba that has occurred since 2017 under Bell Canada’s leadership.
Executive Director Katherine Johnson shared positive news about the local’s strong financial position. She also outlined upcoming opportunities for members to participate in union activities and encouraged greater involvement in the months ahead.
Erin Spencer, IFPTE Representative and Organizer, delivered greetings on behalf of IFPTE President Matt Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson. She emphasized the importance of union solidarity and the benefits of being part of the broader labour community.
The meeting served as a platform to unite members, highlight achievements, and prepare for the challenges ahead, particularly as TEAM focuses on protecting jobs and the renewal of its collective agreement in the coming year.
