TEAM Writes to Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage
As part of TEAM/IFPTE Local 161’s ongoing campaign to keep telecommunications jobs in Manitoba, TEAM President, Dave Eyjolfson, sent a letter to the Honourable Hedy Fry, Chair of the Canadian Parliament’s Heritage Committee, to highlight concerns about Bell’s current round of job cuts and the impact of continued job reductions on our members, our communities, our economy, and the future of telecommunications work in Canada.
A letter was also sent to Niki Ashton, MP for Churchill—Keewatinook Aski, who sits on the Heritage Committee, requesting a meeting to discuss our concerns further. BCE’s CEO Mirko Bibic and several other top executives from Bell were invited last week to testify before the Committee about the company’s recent decision to cut 9% of its workforce.
