TEAM/IFPTE Local 161 Meets with the Manitoba Metis Federation
On October 1, TEAM/IFPTE Local 161 President, Dave Eyjolfson, Executive Director, Katherine Johnson, and IFPTE Representative, Erin Spencer, participated in a meeting with the Senior Economic Advisor, Lorne Pelletier, of the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF). The meeting was held as a result of TEAM’s outreach to the MMF to congratulate the government on its recent purchase of two downtown Winnipeg office buildings, one of which is the primary workplace for most TEAM members, and to discuss the parties’ shared interest in ensuring the continued operations of Bell Canada and the retention of TEAM members working at this location.
During the meeting, TEAM talked about the importance of maintaining the vitality of this important downtown site and supporting the workforce employed there, as well as the legacy of good telco jobs that have been a part of the Manitoba economy for over 100 years. The group discussed ways of engaging representatives from different levels of government, where possible, to assist in ensuring Bell Canada maintains a strong and consistent level of employment, not only at this downtown location but across all of Manitoba.
