Turning #MeToo Into Law: Using C190 and National Law Reform to End Gender-Based Violence at Work

This week, the Women’s Solidarity Network (WSN) is spotlighting an interesting webinar taking place on Nov 16 at 9:00 a.m. EST. Bringing together speakers from around the world, the webinar will address the legal advances of ILO Violence and Harassment Convention (C190) in the context of global #MeToo movements, the Covid-19 pandemic, and economic recession.

In June 2019, International Labour Organization (ILO) member governments, worker representatives, and employers’ organizations adopted a landmark global treaty which set international legal standards for preventing and responding to violence and harassment at work. Known as the ILO Violence and Harassment Convention (C190), the treaty offers workers’ organizations, feminist groups, other civil society groups, journalists, donors, progressive employers, and activist lawmakers – particularly those fighting for gender equality, human rights, and labor rights – an invaluable tool around which to organize in the fight against gender-based violence in the workplace.

The webinar will highlight concrete examples of national campaigns, successes, and challenges, and how national organizations are using the ILO Violence and Harassment Convention to leverage lasting change.
