After Decade of Service on Executive Council, Lee Stone Steps Down as IFPTE VP of Western Federal Area

This week, before the IFPTE Federal Caucus convened, IFPTE Executive Council Western Area Vice President Lee Stone announced that he will not run another term for that position.

Lee has led IFPTE and helped build union power in countless roles, including as President of Ames Federal Employees Union-Local 30 (AFEU) and President of the NASA Council of IFPTE Locals (NCIL). He’s directed legislative affairs work for both AFEU and NCIL, represented IFPTE on NASA’s labor-management forum during the Obama Administration, and has been a advocate for federal employees, federal sector STEM careers, and workers rights across all sectors.

Taking Lee at his word, IFPTE leaders, members, and staff expect Lee to continue to be active in the union and the labor movement.

Read Lee’s farewell message to the IFPTE Federal Caucus below.

Dear Sisters and Brothers of the IFPTE Federal Caucus, my fellow VPs, and our awesome IFPTE staff who make the Union Stronger,

After nearly a decade in this role, I have decided to step down from the position of Western Federal Area Vice President at the 2021 Convention.  It has been an amazing experience having the privilege and pleasure of serving and representing you.  I have learned so much from so many of you, not just about labor issues, tactics, and strategy, but also about human strength, integrity, resilience, service, and courage.  For this knowledge, I will be forever be in your debt.  For your trust all these years, I am deeply grateful.

As the Caucus continues to face serious ongoing challenges and the need to rebuild after the relentless onslaught of the past Administration, I am comforted by the fact that someone of outstanding character and remarkable capability is stepping up to run to take my place.  I know that she will provide strong, insightful, steadfast, and effective leadership as the Caucus experiences a changing of the guard going forward into a new era.  I also know that, given the caliber of our ranks, the Caucus will only get stronger as it overcomes the recent setbacks, as long as we renew and reinvigorate our commitment to working together in powerful, unwavering solidarity.

Lastly, I will not be disappearing anytime soon.  I remain fully committed to IPFTE and the Labor Movement, especially as it applies to public service.  I intend to support the new Executive Officers and the new Fed VPs in any way I can to help bring about progress, justice, equity, and respect for all working families in these very troubling times.  Please do not hesitate to contact me, if you think I may be able to help you and those you represent.

Solidarity Forever,
Brother Lee
