In response to a federal court decision that has left millions of student loan borrowers uncertain about accessing affordable repayment and loan forgiveness options, IFPTE joined with over 110 organizations asking the Department of Education to support working people who are in a precarious situation to protect student loan borrowers from financial ruin amid ongoing litigation.

Read MoreWith the deadline for the Department of Education's waiver on the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) just days away, IFPTE and NPEU/IFPTE Local 70 signed onto a union letter to Education Secretary Cardona requesting the deadline for the waiver be extended through July 1, 2023. The waiver allows PSLF to forgive student loan debt in instances where borrowers were not previously on an eligible repayment plan, did not pay the full amount due, or did not pay on time.
