GAO Best Places to Work in Federal Sector
For the third year in a row, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) placed number one among mid-size federal agencies in the Partnership for Public Service’s Best Places to Work rankings. This success is due in part to the excellent work of the GAO Employees Organization, IFPTE Local 1921.
With the Biden Administration set to end the emergency declaration for the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2023, Local 1921 is looking to the future and working to secure agreement on workplace flexibilities which allowed GAO to successfully execute its mission over the past three challenging years. To that end, Local 1921 leaders and agency management have been engaged in negotiations for the past several months over the “Future of Work” policies that will establish flexibilities on a long-term foundation and contract language.
“I am proud of the hard work of GAO employees and their union representatives in making our agency the best place to work in the federal government,” said Benjamin Emmel, president of the GAO Employees Organization. “We look forward to concluding our negotiations and continuing to improve GAO while serving Congress and the American people.” GAO’s success serves as a reminder to other federal agencies that flexible workplaces which promote work/life balance attract and retain the best and brightest in public service.
Emmel will join agency head Comptroller General Gene Dodaro and other employee representatives in receiving GAO’s award at the Best Places to Work Awards Breakfast in late April. Read more...
