NFFE’s Steve Lenkart Sets the Record Straight on Federal “Workers”
National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) Executive Director, Steve Lenkart, took issue this week with a Federal News Network columnist who said that he, “doesn’t think of federal employees as “workers,”…”. The column, which was authored by Tom Temin and was in response to the AFGE rally this week in support of an 8.7% federal pay raise, prompted an immediate response from Brother Lenkart, who wrote his own letter to Mr. Temin pointing out the many fallacies of his column, while reminding him that, “Each year, many federal employees (aka workers) get injured, sick or die because of the work they do serving their country.”
Lenkart also wrote that working for the federal government “is a wonderful opportunity that can that can lead to many great accomplishments in life and in career. But the mobility, pay, pensions, benefits, equality and equity did not come naturally. We still fight for those things each day.”
