IFPTE Applauds House Judiciary Chair Nadler's Call for DOJ to Close Immigration Court Hearings During Pandemic

House Judiciary Chairman Jerrod Nadler urged the Justice Department’s Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR) to close the remaining in-person hearings that are be held in Immigration Courts throughout the U.S. IFPTE and National Association of Immigration Judges/IFPTE Judicial Council 2 (NAIJ) thank Chairman Nadler’s leadership in calling on U.S. Attorney General William Barr and EOIR Director James McHenry to closing Immigration Court locations and allowing Immigration Judges to hold remote hearings.

While federal, state, and local limit hearings to cases on the non-detained docket through April 10th. This is a small but troublingly insufficient step as a number of hearings are continuing, including those of unaccompanied children and people in the Remain-in-Mexico docket.
