IFPTE Commends Court’s Temporary Halt of DOGE Data Breach at Federal Agencies as a First Step to Preventing Further Violation of Millions of Americans’ Private Personal Information

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, a judge ordered that the Department of Education and Office of Personnel Management must bar Elon Musk and the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing key databases.  IFPTE is a named plaintiff in the lawsuit, as its members who work in the federal sector and those who have participated in student loan programs have had their rights violated by DOGE’s unlawful actions.

“Meeting the requirements necessary for a federal judge to court such extraordinary relief is no small hurdle,” IFPTE President Matt Biggs said.  “While we are heartened by this decision, we will not let up in our efforts to advance this case or any other actions we are taking to protect the rights of our members.”

Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson added, “This important milestone is the result of IFPTE and other unions coming together to pool our resources and provide a strong voice for America’s workers, and this decision serves to strengthen our resolve as we move forward in solidarity.”

IFPTE is a labor union representing upwards of 90,000 workers in the federal, public, and private sectors.
