IFPTE Delegates Attend Canadian Labour Congress Convention
Canada’s unions gathered this week for the Canadian Labour Congress’ (CLC) 29th Constitutional Convention. Over 4,000 union members logged on to participate in the online convention, including IFPTE delegates from Local 160, 161, 162, 222 as well as President Paul Shearon and Secretary-Treasurer Matt Biggs.
Leading up to the official opening of the convention, celebrated American activist and founder of the #MeToo movement, Tarana Burke, was a keynote speaker among other high profile speakers and panelists.
Delegates heard about the monumental gains the labour movement had made since the last convention. Delegates adopted resolutions to advance good jobs, social justice, and help strengthen Canada’s social safety net. Delegates also passed resolutions on supporting Indigenous rights and fighting Islamophobia and anti-Asian racism.
