IFPTE Endorses Heather Mizeur for Congress in Maryland's First Congressional District
Statement by IFPTE International President Matt Biggs, IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson and IFPTE Local 70 President Katie Barrows
On behalf of our more than 90,000 members throughout North America, IFPTE enthusiastically endorses the candidacy of Heather Mizeur for Congress. During her eight years of service in the Maryland General Assembly and her previous terms on the Takoma Park City Council, Mizuer has proven herself as a champion of working families and friend of organized labor.
IFPTE President Biggs:
“Heather Mizeur understands the needs and concerns of the people of Maryland’s First Congressional District. This year she also represents one of the few opportunities that we in labor have to replace an anti-worker, anti-union Representative with someone who will fight for our rights and our members. Heather has stood with us for years, and IFPTE is proud to stand with her now and help her get elected to the United States House of Representatives.”
IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson:
“Heather Mizeur has been a trail-blazer throughout her decades in public service. She has earned a reputation as an understated but highly effective legislator, and her record of getting pro-worker, pro-family bills passed through the Maryland General Assembly stands as a testament to that fact. As a fierce woman and proud member of the LGBT+ community, she has what it takes to defeat one of the most anti-worker members of the House of Representatives.”
IFPTE Vice President for the Southeast Katie Barrows:
“Our members in Maryland are excited to join the growing list of labor unions, environmental advocates, civil rights groups and other leaders in supporting Heather Mizeur for Congress. As a member of a union that represents many younger workers who serve in the nation’s premier progressive organizations, I am excited to have another proven advocate for working families join the Maryland delegation. Heather’s forward-thinking, compassionate and inclusive approach stands in stark contrast to the backwards ideology espoused by the current Representative from Maryland’s First District. She is a leader for the future.”
