IFPTE Enthusiastically Supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for Second Term
Union Endorses the Most Pro-Labor President and Vice-President of
Our Lifetimes and Seeks the Opportunity to
Continue Engaging with the Biden-Harris Administration in a Second Term
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC – The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), an AFL-CIO affiliated labor union representing professional employees working for the federal government, state and local government, and the private sector, issued their endorsement to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to serve a second term as President and Vice President of the United States. The IFPTE Executive Council voted unanimously to endorse President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for reelection. IFPTE Executive Officers provided the following statements.
IFPTE President Matthew Biggs:
“As the President of IFPTE, I’m proud to give our union’s endorsement for President of the United States to Joe Biden and for Vice President of the United States to Kamala Harris. In their first term, President Biden and Vice President Harris made a clear and full-throated commitment to being the most pro-labor administration of our lifetimes and they have lived up to their word. At a pivotal moment in our nation's history, they provided national leadership to weather the pandemic and the economic crisis that came with it and come out of it as a stronger nation. They understood that America was long overdue for a national industrial policy that creates good union jobs, enables long-term economic prosperity, considers national priorities in trade and tax policy, and provides working families pathways to the middle class. On day one of their Administration, they took immediate action to reverse the devastating attacks on federal workers, their unions, and the civil service that the previous administration carried out.
From Vice-President Harris’ leadership on the White House Task Force for Worker Organizing and Empowerment, to President Biden’s commitment to making the federal government a model employer, to the ongoing implementation of legislation like the CHIPS and Science Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to supporting Buy American and domestic manufacturing, unions have been key partners for throughout the Biden-Harris Administration. This Administration has strongly supported the PRO Act and other legislative priorities that IFPTE continues to advocate for, but they’ve also made use of their authority to advance worker protections and labor rights and stoop up to Congressional efforts to cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act.
President Biden and Vice President Harris have a remarkable set of achievements to point to as they seek reelection. There’s more work to be done and our union fully expects a second Biden-Harris term will continue the important.”
IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson:
“President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have truly earned IFPTE’s endorsement for a second term. They not only brought their leadership and support for unions and workers to the White House, they also have provide opportunities for labor unions’ perspectives and solutions. That’s no surprise to us, considering our union has a long history of working with Joe Biden and he has a proven track record of supporting and working with IFPTE members. Dating back to his time in the Senate, he has always made time to hear workers’ concerns, including IFPTE members and leaders at Local 3 in Philadelphia.
In their first term, President Biden and Vice President Harris set a course for once-in-a-generation investments in the clean energy sector, in aerospace and advanced manufacturing, in our infrastructure, in workforce development, and in the federal government. They’ve undertaken this ambitious agenda that puts workers first, including workers represented by IFPTE. They recognize that a well-functioning nonpartisan civil service is vital to our nation and they know that federal employee unions play a leading role in making the federal government a model employer.
IFPTE looks forward to a second Biden-Harris term so that our union can continue to build on our joint efforts to create a strong 21st-century economy that provides good union jobs and high labor standards, educational opportunities and career pathways, healthcare and retirement security, a worker-centered clean energy transition, and a prosperous future for all Americans.”
Across the United States and Canada, IFPTE represents 90,000 highly skilled workers in the federal, public, and private sectors. IFPTE is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO and the CLC. More information can be found at www.IFPTE.org.
