Senate HELP Committee Considers The PRO Act – IFPTE Urges a “Yes” Vote
On Wednesday, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee considered amending and advancing the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize Act, or PRO Act . IFPTE urged the Committee members to approve the legislation without any amendments that would weaken or delay the bill’s ability to restore legal protections for workers right to organize and join unions, bargain collectively, and ensure meaningful and effective enforcement of labor law violations.
The PRO Act, which IFPTE has endorsed and advocated for, provides long overdue private sector labor law reforms and continues to be the labor movement’s number one legislative priority. It is critical for building labor union density throughout all sectors of the workforce.
In urging Senate HELP Committee Senators to support the bill, IFPTE wrote that, “the PRO Act would counter the all-too-common anti-union tactics that interfere with and impede working Americans’ right to organize unions and collectively bargain with their employers over wages, benefits, and working conditions.”
