IFPTE Extends Solidarity to Capitol Hill Staff, Endorses House Resolution to Grant Them Union Rights
IFPTE made it clear this week that all professional workers throughout the United States should have the right to organize, including Congressional staff.
Right after the introduction of House Resolution 915, a bill cosponsored by Michigan Congressman Andy Levin that gives Congressional staff working for Representatives the right to form unions and bargain collectively, IFPTE sent a letter endorsing the resolution and asked all Representatives to cosponsor and support their staff’s union rights.
IFPTE’s letter comes after the Congressional Workers Union (CWU) announcement last week that they intended to move forward in forming a union for House of Representatives staff. Soon thereafter, Rep. Levin announced his intention to introduce H.Res. 915 resolution to pave the way for organizing of House staff. calling it, “a solid step toward in bringing fairness to the working conditions experienced by House staff.”
At introduction, H.Res. 915 has 130 cosponsors. IFPTE asks all Members of the House of Representatives to cosponsor and vote for the passage of H.Res 915 and “to grant voluntarily recognition when their staffers wish to form a union in their workplace.”
