IFPTE Meets with DOE Secretary Granholm

IFPTE President, Matt Biggs, Secretary-Treasurer, Gay Henson, and Assistant to the Executive Officers, Brian Kildee, met this week in Washington, DC with Energy Secretary, Jennifer Granholm.  As one of North America’s biggest Unions representing energy industry workers, IFPTE discussed the Union’s efforts to continue to advocate for public investment in clean energy emerging technologies, including nuclear, and the workforce development that goes along with it.

Biggs commented, “our discussions with Secretary Granholm were very productive and she assured us that she and the Biden Administration are committed to moving forward with robust clean energy investments that will help our environment as well as continue to create union-represented jobs.”  Secretary-Treasurer Henson also commented, saying, “Secretary Granholm certainly understands the dire need to expand clean energy technologies, including small modular reactors at the Tennessee Valley Authority and elsewhere, so we can meet both our energy demands and carbon-free emissions goals.”  Finally, Brian Kildee commented that, “it is critically important that we make the connection between strong investments in workforce development that run concurrent with investments in clean energy technologies, something that Secretary Granholm clearly understands.”
