IFPTE Mourns the Loss of Brother Larry Griffin

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC – The Executive Officers of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), a labor union representing upwards of 90,000 working professionals in diverse occupations across the federal government, state and local governments, and the private sector, released the following statements in response to the passing of Brother Larry Griffin, longtime Local 21 officer and IFPTE legend.

IFPTE President Matt Biggs:

"The IFPTE family is saddened and shocked to learn of Larry's passing.  Brother Griffin was an iconic figure within the larger labor family, and of course a trailblazer of a leader at Local 21.  On a personal note, he was as close a personal Union Brother as I've had here at IFPTE.  Our IFPTE family mourns his passing and sends our deepest condolences to his immediate and Local 21 families."

IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson:

“While we mourn Larry's passing, his immense contributions to our Federation and Local 21 will live on for many years to come."

Local 21 President/Western Area Vice President Gus Vallejo:

"Brother Griffin was proud to tell the story of how he followed in his father's footsteps as a strong and active trade unionist.  He did so at Local 21, of course, but also within the IFPTE nationally and here in the Bay Area labor councils and California State AFL-CIO.  Whenever there was a fight for justice, he was there.  Brother Griffin lived the creed 'getting into good trouble', and did just that many times, including to the point of going to jail.  We will miss him."

IFPTE honored Larry Griffin at the union’s 60th Convention in 2021.  Learn more about him by reading his accolade here [PDF].

Across the United States and Canada, IFPTE represents 90,000 highly skilled workers in the federal, public, and private sectors. IFPTE is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO and the Canadian Labour Congress.
