IFPTE Mourns the Loss of Former IFPTE VP/Former SPEEA President Tom McCarty

The Federation is sad to report the passing of long-time SPEEA and IFPTE activist, Brother Tom McCarty. Tom served SPEEA for many years, and in many roles, including as SPEEA President and as IFPTE Vice President.

SPEEA Executive Director, Ray Goforth, commented on the sad news saying that McCarty, “was a vibrant member of the SPEEA community for decades and a good friend to all, while IFPTE President Paul Shearon reminisced that “Perhaps the one union accomplishment that stands out from the many that Tom achieved was his central role in the successful 40-day long SPEEA strike in 2000, where 18,000 SPEEA members walked off the job, ultimately bringing The Boeing Company to their senses. I think it was Tom’s proudest moment as a labor activist, one in which he even wrote a book titled the ‘Picket Line’ to memorialize it.

Tom will be missed by the entire IFPTE family and we send his family our deepest condolences.”
