IFPTE Mourns the Passing of Shirley Rice, Wife of NJ State Senator Ron Rice
Atlantic Council/IFPTE Local 195 President Tim Rudolph and Atlantic Area Vice Presidents Gerry Newsome and Sean McBride issued the following joint statement regarding the passing of Mrs. Rice:
“On behalf of the entire IFPTE family, particularly the thousands of union Sisters and Brothers throughout the State of New Jersey, our union offers our deepest condolences to one of our greatest friends, Senator Ron Rice, on the passing of his wife, Shirley. Having worked so closely with Senator Rice over so many years, we are all well aware of his love and devotion to Shirley, who he has been married to for 35 years. Indeed, we have all met, and commonly saw Mrs. Rice at many events throughout our state, and have heard Senator Rice talk about her many times during events at our union rallies and halls. Senator Rice has been there for our members time and time again, and IFPTE is here for him during the Rice family’s time of grieving.”
Senator Rice is a champion of labor unions and collective bargaining rights, is the Chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus, and represents the city of Newark.
