WASHINGTON, DC – The International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers (IFPTE) representing 90,000 workers in the private, public and federal sectors, issued the following statement in response to the Congressional Republican leaders continued efforts to block much need COVID relief to working families:
“IFPTE believes that President Trump’s decision to finally sign the latest COVID relief bill is just the start of what needs to be much more meaningful aid to working families, including providing robust funding to our State and Local governments. We at IFPTE continue to be dismayed by the current efforts of Republican leaders in Congress to sabotage the incoming Administration to the point of throwing workers in both red and blue states under the bus when tens of millions are in dire need of their government’s help. Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell has been stubbornly blocking all COVID relief ever since the House passed by the HEROES Act last summer, and along with House Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy, continues to block meaningful direct payments to millions of families in urgent need.”
“IFPTE urges Leaders McConnell and McCarthy to reverse course and support immediate passage of the House bill being considered today to extend direct household payouts to $2000 per adult and dependent, and move to pass additional legislative financial assistance to States to pay for first responders, vaccine distribution, and all those public servants on the front lines supporting American families during this horrific pandemic. Working families expect no less.”
