In Recognition of Intl. Day of Persons with Disabilities, The Society/Local 160 Forms Professionals with Disabilities Committee

December 3rd was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). IDPD was first proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly and observance of the day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

In recognition of IDPD, the Society of United Professionals (IFPTE Local 160) is establishing a Professionals with Disabilities Committee which will advance the interest of persons with disabilities within the Society, employer workplaces and the communities where we live and work.

The theme of this year’s IDPD is “Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World”. The focus is disability inclusion and breaking barriers which segregate too many people with disabilities and forces them into the margins of the society.
