IFPTE Locals 195 and 196 each held board meetings this past Wednesday in New Jersey. Local 195’s meeting, chaired by Executive Vice President/Local 195 Business Manager, Gerry Newsome, was an opportunity for the Board to review financial and legislative reports from Local officers and staff about the ongoing work of the union, as well as a review of the New Jersey state AFL-CIO endorsed congressional candidates running in the upcoming November elections. The Local 195 board also received a report from IFPTE International President Matt Biggs, who attended the meeting with International Representatives David LaFemina and Karen Bellamy-Lewis.
Meanwhile, Local 196’s meeting, held in Iselin, New Jersey and chaired by Atlantic Area Vice President/Local 196 President, Sean McBride, also focused on internal union, financial, and other business, as well as the Local’s ongoing and successful organizing program. Brother Newsome commented that, “it is important for Local 195 board members to come together to hear about the important issues facing our members, as well as to get reports on the internal business of our union and the importance of the upcoming November elections to union members,” while Brother McBride noted that, “our meeting is a great opportunity to update our board members on the latest efforts of our Local to build our ranks through organizing, and to hear about the major issues impacting our members within Local 196 and the larger IFPTE family all throughout New Jersey.”
