On Saturday August 28, Americans Will 'March On For Washington and Voting Rights'

On the 58th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Justice, Americans will converge in Washington D.C. and throughout the U.S. to continue the call for restoring and updating a key victory for the Civil Rights Movement and for American democracy: federal protections for voting rights.

This is an urgent moment for American democracy. Since the beginning of 2021, more than 400 voter suppression bills have been introduced in 49 states; extremists attacked the Capitol in an attempt to block the peaceful transfer of power; and the 700,000 residents of D.C. are still being denied full voting rights and representation in Congress.

IFPTE and the labor movement have advocated for H.R. 1/S. 1, the For the People Act, H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and H.R. 51, the Washington, D.C. Admission Act — the reforms in these bills are critical to ensuring all American citizens have access to the ballot and that our voting systems do not discriminate or create undue burdens on voters.

On August 28th, Americans will be marching once more to call for a democracy where all Americans finally have full and equal rights. To join the March in D.C. and in cities throughout the U.S. as well as virtually, visit the March On for Voting Rights website.
