Society Bruce Local Members Hold AGM

The Society of United Professionals (SUP/IFPTE Local 160) members employed at Bruce Power held their annual general meeting earlier this week. Members were welcomed by Society Bruce Local Vice President, Dave Ceksters, who provided an update on local activities including a report on improved labour relations in the workplace, the purchase of a building in Tiverton, which has become the union’s new regional office, and information on the upcoming Principal Officer elections.

Society Executive Vice-President Chris Graham was on hand to provide greetings on behalf of the Local’s central office and Society Secretary-Treasurer, Laurie Reid presented the union’s financial report. IFPTE International staff representatives Bill Fitzpatrick and Anna Liu were also invited to address the membership on organizing opportunities.

Additionally, members were provided an opportunity to hear about a new campaign launched by the Society advocating for Candu technology as nuclear power expands within Ontario and elsewhere in Canada. A special presentation by Akins Realis was featured showcasing the Candu Monarch reactor.
