Society Hydro One Annual Council

On June 10, the Society Hydro One Local/IFPTE Local 160’s Annual Council was held with close to 100 Delegates and guests in attendance. This year’s council theme was “Rising Together: Facing Challenges With Resiliency.” The message focuses on the Local’s emphasis on prioritizing member involvement in tackling the issues in the workplace.

In her Local Vice President’s report, Vicki Power shared “[our] activities are designed to foster stronger connections and better communication with our members across various regions. We want to engage with them on their turf and without asking for anything in return other than their feedback and support in helping us improve.”

Delegates spent time discussing the Local’s strategic plan brainstorming ideas for increasing membership engagement and preparing for the next round of negotiations in 2025. IFPTE President Matt Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson were on hand to bring greetings to the Local. President Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Henson commended the critical work that the Local is engaged in and underscored the importance of solidarity to secure workplace gains.

The day’s agenda also included additional guest speakers including Legal Counsel, Ryan White, who gave a legal analysis of union rights when campaigning and access to the workplace, and a panel discussion featuring the Society’s Principal Officers.
