Society President Rebecca Caron Speaks at Port Hope IWD Event

On March 7th, the Port Hope Chamber of Commerce hosted a special event in celebration of International Women’s Day, bringing together inspiring leaders dedicated to advancing gender equality. Among the distinguished speakers was the Society of United Professionals/IFPTE Local 160 President Rebecca Caron, who delivered a compelling address on the critical role of unions in the fight for pay equity.
Caron emphasized that unions have historically been at the forefront of advocating for fair wages and equitable treatment in the workplace. She highlighted how collective bargaining and union advocacy have played a vital role in securing fair pay for women and marginalized workers.
The afternoon event featured a diverse lineup of speakers, including Nicolle Butcher, President and CEO of Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and Port Hope Mayor Olena Hankivsky. This gathering served as a powerful platform to highlight the ongoing challenges and successes in the fight for workplace equality.
