Solidarity for Good
Members of the Non-Profit Employees Union (NPEU/IFPTE Local 70) joined officers and staff from IFPTE at a watch party to view the returns from the Virginia and New Jersey state elections in downtown DC Tuesday night. NPEU members worked the phones for Terry McAuliffe earlier in the day and IFPTE International President Matt Biggs joined other labor leaders in a Get-Out-the-Vote drive in New Jersey a few weeks ago.
While the results didn't come out exactly as IFPTE had wished, the off-year election was a reminder that working families are looking for real solutions to the financial challenges they face every day.
"Our members, like other workers throughout the country, are paying attention to the rhetoric and the actions of our elected officials," said IFPTE President Matt Biggs. "Tuesday night's results should serve as a notice to leaders from both parties that people are fed up with elected officials who stand in the way of real results and real progress for working families."
Biggs also thanked NPEU for their work in growing IFPTE's membership and building union power: "We were happy to be able to have the opportunity to get together with the members and leaders of NPEU to thank them not only for stepping up to support labor’s candidates, but also for their successful work in organizing the unorganized among the non-profit community.”
