TEAM Meets with Manitoba Minister of Consumer Protection and Public Services

Earlier this week, TEAM/IFPTE Local 161 met with James Teitsma, Manitoba’s Minister of Consumer Protection and Public Services. The meeting was attended by David Eyjolfson, TEAM President; Erin Spencer, TEAM Executive Director; Bill Fitzpatrick, IFPTE staff; and Anna Liu, IFPTE staff.

The meeting was part of TEAM’s “Good Jobs in Manitoba” campaign. Minister Teitsma was informed about the number of job losses since Bell took over MTS. TEAM Executive Director, Erin Spencer, impressed upon the Minister the impacts of privatization of MTS and the subsequent acquisition by Bell.

David Eyjolfson, TEAM President stated, “we are struggling to maintain good jobs in this province and worried about the lack of opportunities and prospects for the next generation of workers. Bell needs to revisit their promise to make Winnipeg the western headquarters.”

TEAM plans on continuing its outreach to elected representatives, particularly at the provincial level with a Manitoba election taking place on October 3.
