Warnock, Ossoff Victories Flip Senate in Favor of Working Families

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IFPTE applauds Georgia voters for “electing pro-worker candidates”

WASHINGTON, DC – The executive officers of the International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers (IFPTE) issued the following statements applauding the victories by Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff for Georgia’s two United States Senate seats.

IFPTE President Paul Shearon:

IFPTE congratulates both Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff for their victories in the Senate runoff elections in Georgia. With the Senate majority hanging in the balance, our union applauds the voters of Georgia for once again stepping up to the plate and electing pro-worker candidates. The voters of Georgia, and the nation, have rejected the anti-worker, reckless leadership of not only the current Administration but also that of Senate Majority Leader McConnell, who has actively hindered any effort to help working families and front-line state and local government workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. During a time when tens of millions of working families are suffering so greatly, IFPTE is hopeful that President-Elect Biden, Vice President-Elect Harris, Speaker Pelosi, and soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Schumer will hit the ground running on January 20th reversing the damage done over the last four years, while proactively moving legislation that will put much-needed money in the pockets of working Americans while providing robust federal aid to state and local governments.”

IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer/Legislative Director Matt Biggs:

The historic victories by Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff means that Senator Majority Leader McConnell will lose his gavel and his ironclad control over the Senate, which can only be described as a great thing for working families. Senator McConnell will no longer have agenda making authority for either the Senate floor or within the Senate’s committees. He will no longer be able to single-handedly sabotage legislation to increase direct payments of $2000 for working families while calling those direct payments to families ‘Socialism for the Rich’. No longer will he be permitted to push through anti-worker federal judges or pass a more than $2 trillion tax cut bill through Congress that overwhelmingly benefited the top 1% of American wage earners and corporations. Moving forward, IFPTE is hopeful that Speaker Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, and good faith Republicans of the new 117th Congress will work in a bipartisan fashion with the Biden Administration to focus like a laser on the needs of the American people so that we can emerge as soon as possible from the pandemic and the economic catastrophe it has caused for working families.”
