IFPTE Attends Post-Election AFL-CIO Executive Council Meeting

This week, IFPTE President Matt Biggs, Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson, and Assistant to the Executive Officers Brian Kildee attended the AFL-CIO Executive Council meeting in Washington, D.C.  The meeting’s agenda included a full analysis of Tuesday’s election results, including but not limited to the many victories by labor backed candidates in New Jersey, Ohio and Virginia.

Marylanders Go to the Polls Tuesday, July 19

Maryland's Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, July 19 from 7am to 8pm. IFPTE has endorsed Katie Curran O’Malley in the race for the state’s Attorney General and Glenn Ivey for the 4th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, and we ask you to consider supporting them if you have not already voted by mail or at an early voting center.

IFPTE Letter Requests Senators Reform Filibuster Rules, Pass John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act, And Protect the Right to Vote

IFPTE urged Senators “In the strongest possible terms, we urge you to reform the Senate’s filibuster rules and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act.” The AFL-CIO also sent a letter with Executive Council members, including IFPTE President Biggs, requesting filibuster reform and passage of voting rights legislation.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy Re-Elected for a Second Term

The New Jersey Governor’s race was one that was being closely watched around the country. The contentious race against Republican challenger and former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli was a close one, but the support of labor ultimately pushed Governor Murphy to the finish line. Governor Murphy was the first democratic Governor to be reelected in New Jersey for a second term in 44 years. November 8 was the final day for mail-in ballots to arrive and it is estimated that about 57,000 provisional ballots are left to be counted. Ciattarelli has yet to concede the race.
