With Government Funding Deadlines Days Away, IFPTE Reiterates Call for Passing Bipartisan FY24 Spending Bills, Avoiding Government Shutdown
With just a week to go before a partial government shutdown starts on Saturday, March 2nd, IFPTE once more urged House and Senate leadership to act urgently and pass bipartisan government funding legislation and remove controversial policy riders or “poison pills” that will delay and block passage. The letter was sent to House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and shared with all Congressional offices.
The letter notes that the House and Senate are already close to agreeing to pass bills to fund the remainder of Fiscal Year 2024, but must remove the policy riders that do not have bipartisan support in the House and Senate. The letter reiterates the impact a government shutdown would have on public services and government programs that Americans throughout the country count on and the impact on IFPTE members who work for the federal government.
